Be a Hero for a Superhero

Meet Jacob Grecco.  An 8 year old boy from Phillipsburg, NJ who is currently in Europe with his mother.  For the Olympics?  Well, sort of, but he’s not in London.  He’s fighting his own Olympics in Germany.

Jacob has a brain tumor called Gliomatosis Cerebri concentrated somewhat around his right temporal lobe, branching out through the right side of his brain and down his spine. Medical science deems this to have a very low cure rate.

After a year of radiation, chemotherapy and surgeries, Jacob’s family made the decision to take him to Germany where more hopeful treatments were available.  The plan for Jacob, as described by Dr. Migeod at the BioMed Clinic in Bad Bergzabern, Germany, was to perform ‘loco-regional deep hyperthermia’ to the tumor areas, not the whole body.  They would also give him infusions of high dose immune system boosters.  He’s been undergoing treatments for a couple of weeks now.

Through it all, Jacob has been ordained a Superhero by his family and friends.  He has endured so much pain, but always did it with the mentality that he would fight and beat this.  But, even Superheros fall sometimes.  Jacob’s treatment in Germany did not improve his condition.  In fact, the doctors are surprised he is still alive.  His mother believes it is so he can fly home to say goodbye to his father and brothers.  The medical flight, though, will cost $58,000-$85,000.  Yesterday alone, $14,000 was raised, bringing the total to $40,000.

When I first started this blog, I explained to you, my readers, that I would challenge you occasionally.  Well, today I challenge you to offer what you can to help bring Jacob home. Donate WHAT YOU CAN to this cause.  Can you give $10?  That would mean forgoing lunch today, or coffee for three days.  Can you spare $100?  That’s a dinner out with friends this month.  Trust me, your friends will understand.

If you knew your child was overseas ready to get his angel wings, what would you do to be by his side?  If your sibling wanted to hold your hand once more before putting his hand in the Lord’s, would you be there?  Can we make this a reality for the Grecco family?

Be a hero for a superhero and help bring Jacob home.
